Welcome Message

Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the XIX PhD Meeting in Psychology “Imagining the (im)possible: the role of psychology in linking past, present and future challenges”, taking place on the 23rd and 24th of May of 2024 at Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon.

This year’s meeting will take place in the recently inaugurated research center “Iscte - Conhecimento e Inovação”. At the heart of this research center is a vision where researchers from different disciplines and schools of thought are brought together for addressing the increasingly complex challenges that our societies face.

Keeping with that theme, this year we extend the invitation to all researchers that want to learn from Psychology and/or that have a connection to the field in their research, despite having done their formal training in other fields.

This year’s theme “Imagining the (im)possible: the role of psychology in linking past, present and future challenges” conveys our hope that Psychology will play an increasingly crucial role in addressing persistent global challenges by providing insight into human behavior, motivations, cognitive and psychosocial processes that contribute to war, inequality, and other issues. By understanding the underlying psychological and relational factors driving these problems, psychologists can develop interventions and strategies to mitigate them. Additionally, collaboration and interconnection with other fields can lead to a more holistic and comprehensive approach to addressing complex social issues.

The meeting is a scientific gathering organized every year by the 1st year PhD class of Psychology. Its aim is to promote debate, share ideas, communicate findings, receive feedback... All while connecting researchers and bringing awareness to new and innovative research!

With advancements in technology, the world has become increasingly interconnected, making it easier for researchers from different fields to come together and move science forward. Psychology is no exception, with the field witnessing a rapid evolution and communicating more and more with other disciplines. This interconnectivity between fields has also the potential to provide more efficient responses to tackle inequality in an increasingly changing world.

Participation in the XIX PhD Meeting is open and free to all presenting and non-presenting authors and attendees from across the world, upon registration.

We look forward to seeing you here!
